The steel foundry Vickers & Co was established in Sheffield in 1828 as a partnership between Edward Vickers and his father-in-law George Naylor.
Vickers & Co. later became Vickers, Sons & Company in 1867. The company went through several reorganisations and remained independent till 1999 until it was sold to Rolls Royce.
