Forest of Tottenham
Created for Renegade Nell. This wall painting depicts an English interpretation of French millefleur tapestry. It has been painted directly onto the original wattle and daub infill between large timbers.
During the 17th-century, many houses were decorated with painted murals ranging from painted wooden panels to designs painted directly on to the plaster as here.
Wall paintings were often created as a lower cost alternative to the expensive woolen tapestries or leather wall hangings that would have adorned the houses of wealthier families.
