Armorial porcelain plate
Created for Renegade Nell. A French plate, decorated with a blue baroque border, bearing the Springbourne coat of arms in the center.
Faience, or fine tin-glazed pottery, emerged in France during the 16th-century. Usage was widespread among wealthy customers during the 17th and early 18th-centuries until it was superseded by the establishment of the porcelain factories.
The plate displays the enamel-painted arms of the fictional Springbourne family: Party per pale argent and gules, a willow branch vert, and on the sinster two escallop or; the coronet of a baron; supported by spaniels proper rampant regardant.
